I started reading this on the morning after it arrived and simply couldn't put it down until I finished it late at night. I just had to know what happened next. Steve Reagan under yet another alias, goes undercover once again as he works for a top secret organization dedicated to the destruction of major criminal enterprises. Also working in the organisation is his Thai wife, Ora, a specialist in the field of intelligence. When they come up against corrupt cops and a racist group intent on overthrowing the government, calling itself Aryan Supremacy, you can be sure it won't be long before the bullets start flying. It's a fast paced, exciting end to the author's trilogy with an ending that surprised me and tugged at my heartstrings. No spoilers from me though. Read it and weep, as the saying goes. Loved the book, and the series as a whole. 5 stars from a satisfied reader.

Besides staying alive, Regan has other problems when he suddenly finds himself facing the worst dilemma an undercover cop can face.

Dilemma is an edgy, suspenseful tale with twists and turns plus a sprinkle of romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second book in the Steve Regan undercover cop series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 November 2018

This is the second book in the Steve Regan undercover cop series which introduces a less conventional undercover cop operating in a big organised crime world. Regan is now working for a small exclusive band of handpicked operatives DOCS Destroy Organised Crime Syndicates and he finds himself in Thailand where the ‘elephant in the room’ might turn out to be Watkins who he was sent to do ‘business’ with; in the world of undercover you never know who are the good guys and who are the bad. I never give away an ending but this one was a pleasant surprise, I didn’t see that coming!
There is an easy authentic emphasis to Regan, why wouldn't there be when the author himself is an ex-undercover cop which gives it a realistic feel and believable dialogues. Once again the author’s characters are three dimensional making them credible. I love the way Regan challenges his own actions and the economically descriptive settings that make me feel I’m in there with him, not watching somewhere on a screen, it’s rich and atmospheric, you can feel the tension. Pleased to know that there is more to come from Stephen Bentley in this series; it would make a terrific crime action film.

Who The F*ck Am I?

A Steve Regan Undercover Cop Thriller

Based on a true story and inspired by the author’s real-life undercover days and bestselling memoir, his debut crime fiction story brings to life Steve Regan, a laid-back badass undercover cop in the Steve Regan Undercover Cop trilogy.

The title of Book One in the series is a nod to identity confusion often experienced by cops who are deep undercover.

As Regan goes deep undercover, he starts to have problems separating reality from fiction. He works in a world of duplicity leading to the ultimate question: How does Regan know people are who they say they are?

Tempted by the riches of drug smuggling so he can help a loved one, Regan wonders whether he can go 'rogue' and cross the line.

Regan infiltrates a South American cartel headed up by a Miami-based Mob-connected drug lord. Becoming involved in a million-dollar cocaine deal escalates the dangers of working undercover.

On his return to the United Kingdom from Miami, Regan discovers a plot to kill a leading barrister. Is this linked to the Mob and drug cartel?

Faced with a race against time through London to prevent the barrister’s murder, Regan is confronted by more questions and threats to his life. Just how far will the Mob go to protect its interests? You will be shocked to discover the measures these gangsters will use to stay free and out of jail.

If you like hard-boiled crime fiction or are a Jack Reacher fan, this book is for you. Original-concept crime fiction about an undercover cop written by a former undercover cop!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended read.

I knew when I read the author’s first book Undercover: Operation Julie although non-fiction that he could make the transition to writing fiction; I was right. He has an ease of language that lends itself to storytelling; he tells it as if he was there in the plot and why shouldn’t he having been an undercover cop in the real world? Not that Steve Reagan is meant to be him, but having the experience means he can do whatever he wants with his fictional characters and they will always be believable. Wasn’t too sure about the title until I began to read it and hope it doesn’t put people off from reading this book. Thrown into an undercover world where the Legend (who you are meant to be) is created for you it’s only a matter of time before the one starts to interfere with the other and you ask that question.
There aren’t many crime authors who could write a scene where a big gangland mobster puts a hand to your head as if it were a gun and simulates a close contact assassination that is frighteningly real except someone who has been there and done that!
The book is three dimensional, it’s not merely a descriptive adventure into the shady world of the criminal, it’s multi-layered and analytical which is often missing from other crime author’s work. I was extremely impressed by the prose. His characterisation verges on exceptional as is their interaction with each other. Stephen Bentley is a real contender in the world of crime writing, I hope he sticks at it. I think he has a real gift and insight into the criminal mind which I would love him to explore.
